Best Monuments and forts to visit in Mumbai

Maharashtra is a state that is laden with forts and monuments, apparently more than any other Indian state. Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra stands not far behind and it too, has a remarkable amount of monuments and forts compared to other cities. Discussing the best monuments in Mumbai, the Gateway of India surely comes atop rather than any fort or building in the city. It is undeniably the landmark and the signature monument of Mumbai. Just on the opposite side of the Gateway of India lies the Taj Mahal Palace, the former signature monument of Mumbai before the Gateway surpassed it. The Taj Mahal Palace is a grand hotel and one of Mumbai's best monuments.

Mumbai abounds in various monuments but let's walk into the forts section for a bit, shall we? The Bandra Fort in Bandra near Mumbai is one of the best and most famous forts of Mumbai. It has been a film shooting location for hundreds of Indian films and offers a spectacular view of the Arabian Sea along with the beautiful Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The Worli fort, though lesser known than other forts, is also one of the best forts of Mumbai and seeps with the rich ancient architecture of India. Another one among Mumbai's best forts is the Karnala Fort, although the fort lies in ruins currently, the enthralling visits has not lessened a bit.

The Lohagada Fort is one of the finest forts in all of Maharashtra and among the best monumental places in Mumbai. It is situated at an elevation of more than a 1000 metres above the sea level and offers stunning views of the verdant surroundings and nearby Pawna and Karla lakes. The Island fort- Murud-Janjira Fort is one of the best forts and monuments in Mumbai and has stood the test of time and unpredictable waters of the Arabian Sea. The Sion Fort built in the 17th century now stands in a deplorable condition, nevertheless, the stunning architecture and the frabjous walls still manage to attract a large number of tourists.
